Support for Syncing iWork and Package Files

I’m excited to share that as of today, we now support the syncing of Mac package files – created by certain software programs like those in iWork – through the latest version of Box Sync (v 4.0.5024). This has been a feature request by Mac users for some time, and our support of these files can help you get more work done from anywhere. Whether you’re editing a presentation using Keynote, developing a whitepaper with Pages or managing a budget in Numbers, you can now upload, edit and share those files easily using Box.

Box+iWorks_Blog2 (1)For now, Box Sync is our recommended path for working with these types of files due to their complexity (Apple OS X Finder displays them as if they’re a single file, but they’re actually a file system directory). Here are a few important notes to keep in mind if you’re an iWork user:

  • Easily sync a package file by adding it to your Box Sync folder on the desktop – it will then be synced to Box, your collaborators’ accounts and other devices seamlessly
  • The synced file will show in Box exactly as it does on Finder: as a single file. This allows you to take advantage of features like persistent shared links, comments and versioning, just as you’d expect with Box.
  • Preview iWork documents seamlessly on any iOS device using mobile app
  • Downloads of package files from the web app are in a zip format – just unzip and edit easily

If you’ve upgraded to Box Sync 4, you already have the update and can start syncing package files now. If you’re still on Sync 3, upgrade now to get started (make sure you sync first so everything’s up to date). Check out more details (including unsupported areas) in the documentation on our support site here.
